Atlanta Falcons: Christopher Owens is in the concussion program - Atlanta Journal Constitution (blog)

FLOWERY BRANCH â€" Falcons cornerback Christopher Owens, who left the game against the Denver Broncos with a head injury in the first quarter is in the league’s concussion protocol program, Falcons coach Mike Smith said on Tuesday.

“He starts that protocol today,” Smith said. “With a short week, that limits the time frame in terms of getting him back. We can’t rule him completely out, but he is in the concussion protocol.”

Owens started the game at nickel back. After Owens left, Dominique Franks took over and finished out the game.

Franks had six tackles and one quarterback hit. Owens had two tackles before he went into the locker room.

Cornerback Robert McClain also played against the Broncos and came up with an interception.

“His role is probably going to change this week because of his play and because of other circumstances with our defensive group,” Smith said.
